I’ve been inspired lately by a photographer in one of my Facebook photography groups, Ana Silva, who shoots beautiful children’s portraiture. She offered a video tutorial last week on how to make the floral headpieces she uses in many of her signature shots, so I decided to give it a go myself.
Hannah and I picked up a bunch of silk flowers at a local thrift store for a few bucks, floral foam and a hair clip and made this headpiece in 15 minutes. It was very easy and inexpensive! Hannah doesn’t have much hair to work with – hers is very thin and very fine – and she complained that it was heavy and pulled her hair during the shoot, but we managed to get a couple decent shots. The first one is the best, the other two are a little soft (something to work on in the future).
We’re going to try making a couple more, slightly smaller and less heavy, and see if they are more comfortable for her to wear. I really love the look and the colors turned out gorgeous in these shots!
